The Yale Journal of International Affairs (YJIA) is an annual print journal that seeks to bridge the gap between academia and the policy world.  YJIA publishes articles, interviews, and op-eds by academic scholars, think tanks, policy practitioners, and advanced graduate students on international affairs topics with implications for policy.  We look for original argumentation and insightful criticism.

Recent contributors to the Yale Journal of International Affairs include: Francis Gavin, Robert Jervis, John M. Owen IV, Marc Trachtenberg, Stephen M. DESCRIPTION is the online counterpart of the Yale Journal of International Affairs (YJIA). It furthers the YJIA’s aim to link academia with policy-making through original and insightful content, and also provides access to the print journal for an online audience. publishes op-eds, articles, and photo essays by scholars, practitioners, advanced graduate students, and freelance contributors.  It also hosts YJIA’s print archives, which can be viewed through the “Print Journal” tab at the top of this page.


Submissions for YJIA are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. Please observe the following submission guidelines:


YJIA considers four types of submissions:

1) Articles (1,500 to 5,000 words)

2) Op-Eds (800 to 1,000 words)

3) Book reviews (2,000 words or less)

4) Photo essays (up to 25 images files) – Please include captions with all the pictures and a short narrative (500 words or less) to precede and set up your photo essay.

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in your piece not being considered.
