Today’s world faces several challenges at once: from Russia’s agression against Ukraine and fears about China’s territorial claims to the rise of authoritarianism and the potential carried by revolutionary movements, as well as the need for good governance and technology to ameliorate socioeconomic problems. All of these drive home the importance of sound analysis and insights to guide the global community in meeting this moment.

The Fall 2022 Digital Edition of the Yale Journal of International Affairs comprises the most compelling pieces the Journal received in its call for submissions in the fall term. Its articles, book reviews, and opeds examine contemporary challenges to propose solutions as well as caution policymakers against dangers that might be overlooked.

Like last year, the pieces were chosen in an author-blind review process. The editorial team presented reviewers with submitted pieces in a standardized anonymous format, minimizing bias in the selection process. The quality of each piece was the primary consideration for selection.

The result is a digital edition that is not only thought-provoking and compelling, but also replete with actionable recommendations. We hope you enjoy reading these pieces as much as we enjoyed editing them.

Finally, a huge thanks to our editorial team and to all authors who submitted their work. This would not have been possible without you!

We invite you to submit your work to us again.

Our best for the new year,
The YJIA Leadership Team
